The African American Male Wellness Agency (AAMWA), a 501-C3 charity, has been a driving force in reducing disparities in premature death and chronic diseases among African American males since 2004. Their innovative health education programs and over 4,000 free health screenings annually have made a substantial impact on the health and well-being of African American men. With a presence in over 16 U.S. cities, they’ve reached out to communities that often go underserved, making a difference one health screening at a time.

A Holistic Approach to Wellness

AAMWA goes beyond just health screenings and wellness programs. They’ve embraced a holistic approach to African American men’s health, understanding that wellness is not just about physical health but also includes mental health, financial wellness, mentorship, fatherhood, and research initiatives. They have expanded their focus to cater to the entire lifestyle of African American men and their families.

The agency’s mantra, “Know your numbers, visit the doctor regularly, and get moving,” encapsulates their dedication to empowering African American men to take ownership of their health. Their comprehensive approach recognizes that addressing health disparities means addressing all aspects of life that impact well-being.

The Importance of Awareness

In their continued efforts to improve African American men’s health, The AAMWA recently organized a webinar focused on understanding ATTR-CM, a rare but potentially life-threatening heart condition that predominantly affects African Americans. Throughout this webinar, featuring Ken Lanier (Former NFL Player, Denver Broncos), their focus was to empower individuals to recognize its signs and symptoms and advocate for early diagnosis.

The African American Male Wellness Agency, AAWA, is not just a catalyst for improving the health of African American men but a holistic influence on the well-being of their families. They’ve transcended the boundaries of traditional health and wellness programming to address the broader aspects of life that affect the community. AAWA’s innovative grassroots strategies have allowed them to connect with those who may not typically engage in health programming, making a profound impact on lives.

Their dedication to promoting awareness, education, and early diagnosis is evident in their recent webinar on ATTR-CM. AAWA continues to be a driving force for health equity in the African American community, saving lives and making a difference in a holistic way. They truly represent “The Holistic Black Impact of Health and Wellness for African American Men and their families.”
