Greenwood, Inc. Acquires Valence to Provide Professional Development & Job Recruiting For The Black Community

Greenwood, digital picking platform for black and Latino professionals and business owners, has announced another acquisition. Valance, the newest addition connects, showcases and empowers black professionals through recruitment and professional development verticals. This newest addition will provide clean words community of nearly 1,000,000 black professionals with access to a multitude of job listing and career opportunities through the Valance pipeline recruiting database. In addition, this will help companies diversify their workforce and include various professional levels from early career to C-suite.

Valence, founded in 2019 by Kobie Fuller, Chairman of Valence and General Partner at Upfront Ventures with Emily Slade and LaMer Walker focused on created a community network of Black professionals to connect and create a pipeline for companies to find Black talent. Raising over $7 Million from investors such as GGV capital and Upfront Ventures, Valence plays a key role in innovating the Black community and addressing the lack of diversity in leadership and high paying industries such as finance and tech.

Following the acquisition, Kobie will join the advisory board of Greenwood and Guy Primus will continue in the role as CEO of Valence, in addition to being named as Vice President at Greenwood.

Valence offers two products centered around professional development and career growth.

Pipeline recruiting database: Pipeline is Valence’s recruiting database, a central hub for Black talent available to corporate recruiters looking to diversity their workforce at all levels including the c-suite. Over 400 corporations have partnered with Valence to source and recruit diverse talent.

BONDS professional development: BONDS is Valence’s professional development program fr emerging Black leaders, designed for Black professionals with 5 to 15 years of work experience. Through coaching, community and curriculum, BONDS allows members to unlock their full potential and set them on the path to realizing their goals. By partnering with Valence’s BOND, companies show their dedication to support the growth and development of Black talent.

Continuing to add value to these products, in 2020, Valence launchd a new program called the Valance funding network. This tool links black entrepreneurs with top partners at firms including Accel, Sequoia, GGV, First Round Capital, Bessemer ventures, Greylock and Upfront Ventures. Through this new initiative, black founders in the future found it on the opportunity to connect with general partners of the firm for coaching and mentorship opportunities. 

This union follows Greenwood’s recent acquisition of the gathering spot in May. The Gathering Spot is a private membership network focused on the black community. Together, this amalgamation of Greenwood Inc, The Gathering Spot and Valance will continue to build upon their shared mission and vision of closing the racial wealth gap.
