On February 12th, at Warrensville Heights, 1000 Ties hosted their first energized event of the year featuring Angela Flowers, Making A Difference Consulting, Dawud Hamzah, H.Y.P.E. (Helping You Produce Excellence) program, Ethan Holmes, Holmes Made Food LLC, Jowan Smith, CEO & Founder of 1000 Ties, Keith Langford, Coordinator of Family and Community Engagement for the Shaker Heights City School District, Kenyari Guy, Youth Opportunities Unlimited  and Keynote Speaker, Mike Mathis.

Created in 2019 by Jowan Smith noticed her son teaching himself how to tie a tie on Youtube. Watching her son doing this for the first time enlightened her to push this and other life experience skills to other young men.

At 1000 Ties, this organization focuses on enhancing the quality of life for youth by teaching them various skills to prepare them for the real world. These young men will learn how to tie ties, build their job readiness, social skills, shake hands, eye contact, engage in dialogue and more. With the help of men from the community, young men ages 10-19 will develop their confidence to network and break the cycle of generational challenges starting with something as simple as a tie.

As a college prep consultant, Smith was intentional about the level of representation at 1000 Ties workshops.

“I wanted to bring in successful African American men who looked like them. Men they can connect with, see their future selves and build long-lasting confidence, even mentorship opportunities”

Also included in these workshops are healthy lifestyle sessions which incorporate healthy eating habits for not only students, but parents and guardians as well. In addition to events, The organization offers stem mentorship program, etiquette and brand development.
