A Look at the Legacy of Maverick Carter, Longtime Business Partner of LeBron James

If you haven’t heard of Maverick Carter before, you’ve definitely seen his work. As an innovative businessman and business partner to NBA star Lebron James, Maverick Carter is the king of making moves.

The businessman got his start as an intern at Nike during his college years. He eventually dropped out of college to become a Nike field representative, thus igniting the beginning of his entrepreneurial career. He became Lebron James’ business manager in 2006 and has since then been the man behind many of James’ significant deals.

When Carter’s not acting as a business manager, he’s busy founding and building new companies. He co-founded the sports marketing company LMLR alongside James and the cross-platform production company SpringHill Entertainment of which he is CEO.

SpringHill produces branded content for big-name companies like Walmart, JPMorgan, and Procter & Gamble. But that’s not all they do. “We make a lot of different things, documentaries, big movies, smaller movies, scripted shows…I think the content dictates where it should live,” Maverick said in a recent CNBC interview

As a cross-platform entertainment company, Carter has a lot of flexibility regarding the projects and ventures SpringHill takes on. SpringHill’s newest venture is called Uninterrupted. It’s a brand and company dedicated to empowering athletes by giving them a platform to share their thoughts—uninterrupted. Inspired by Lebron James’ 2014 open letter to Sports Illustrated, Carter and James realized “there was no place for athletes to really express themselves.”

“We were always thinking of ourselves as a media company, and then we realized that we meant much more than just a company that delivered media. We were actually a brand. We realized that we were a media company that’s become a brand. We were an athlete empowerment brand,” Carter explained to SportsPro Media

Maverick Carter has been in the business for a long time, but it seems as if he’s just getting started. From new ventures like Uninterrupted to the opportunities SpringHill presents, we can expect to hear a lot from the businessman in the future.
